This one's for everybody out there who thinks Angelina Jolie is a heartless, homewrecking vixen devoid of human compassion (and just for the record, I am not one of you!): The actress was so moved, so profoundly humbled by her experience as a first-time writer/director (the Bosnian wartime romance In the Land of Blood and Honey), that she had what she calls a "complete emotional breakdown."
Seriously! That's a direct quote!
So how bad was it? This is undoubtedly your question. Like, Girl Interrupted bad?
Well, you know, I have no firsthand knowledge of exactly what went down when Angie lost her shizzit. So I can't really say.
But I can tell you this much ... if Brad Pitt didn't find his woman when he did, Angelina might have drowned!
Okay, fine, only in the worst possible case scenario. But she did have a freakout in a potentially hazardous place. Her words, dude:
"I had a complete emotional breakdown in the shower and Brad found me crying. I didn't plan to become a director, and I still have trouble saying I'm a director. I just wanted to tell this story and I ended up by default being the director."
Now tell me, are those the words of a heartless, homewrecking vixen? No they are not. Particularly when one considers the film in question: A doomed romance set against the cheery backdrop of the Bosnian war?
Which, by the way, Jolie was inspired to make after spending time in Bosnia as a UN Goodwill Ambassador. So of course she was overwhelmed! That's a heavy load to carry. You know, as a storyteller.
"I felt this huge responsibility and I felt very small. I thought, 'Who am I to take this on?' I had a complete meltdown."
I was already a huge Angelina Jolie fan (I don't see "America's sweetheart" signing up to be a UN Goodwill Ambassador anytime soon, please!), but now I like her even more. Because Angelina was never heartless. SHE'S ALL HEART, MOTHER%^&*$#@!
Does Angelina's "complete emotional breakdown" make you like her more?

I'm so happy they can still support each other and love each other through all the pressure and hate they recieve from the world. More power to them!
I don't like Angelina Jolie because I think she insanely boring. She would be the least fun person ever to hang out with.
I like her philanthropy but it seems a bit dramatic.
Nothing will make me like her more. Seriously though, drowning? In the shower? Exaggerate much?
