As the old saying goes: Where there's smoke, there's usually fire. TMZ reports that Russell Brand has filed for divorce from Katy Perry, citing irreconcilable differences. Everyone saw this coming a mile away -- the separate Christmases, the lack of wedding bands, the cheating rumors -- I don't think anyone is necessarily surprised that the comedian and the pop star called it quits. The only thing that is surprising about their split is that apparently, Katy might have been blindsided by it all. The legal documents TMZ obtained led them to believe that the "Firework" singer may not have known about her impending divorce.
I don't know, I find that hard to believe. I'm sure Katy knew what was going down. I'm just happy it's all out in the open now. No more speculation -- Katy and Russell are done. Court docs don't lie.
I'm kind of glad they didn't fuddy dud around the issue and go on pretending like they were super happy when really their marriage was falling apart. I know for a while they had to deny the rumors, but I'm glad to see that once the rings came off, the papers were filed, and the divorce was put in motion. No more guessing. It's just ... over.
It's a shame -- they seemed to be two dynamic people with a unique zeal for life. I love that they got married in India and I appreciate the fact that they kept their dating life private for a while, but I guess all that doesn't matter now. They're probably the last celebrity couple to break up in 2011, but there's still a day or two. Khloe, Lamar? Any announcements to make?
I'm sure each of them will move on and do great things and I'm especially looking forward to Katy's next album. I have a feeling it's going to be a little dark and moody.
