When pretty Caucasian teens go into the woods for some fun, sex, and relaxation, we all know no good comes from it. We have all seen the movie 1,000 times, and the new trailer for The Cabin in the Woods, the latest horror fare from Joss Whedon, is going to make that number 1,001.
It has all the makings of a classic teen slasher: Creepy gas station attendant? Check. Cabin removed from all other people? Check. Hot and horny teenagers? Check and check!
This one promises to be different and to add some spice to the old formula, but I am not so sure. Either way, it's going to work for me. The trailer was released today and it looks like Cabin Fever crossed with Texas Chainsaw Massacre with a little bit of Wrong Turn thrown in the mix. See for yourself:
The film has sat on the shelf for years due to studio bankruptcy. Usually this is a bad sign, but in this case, I will give it the benefit of the doubt. It looks good, right?
The film is highly anticipated because it's the directorial debut of former Buffy the Vampire Slayer writer Drew Goddard, who co-wrote with Whedon and who also wrote Cloverfield. There are also many of Whedon's favorite stars in the film.
There are also some creepy aspects that seem to pull it outside the normal storyline. Who is the dude with the buttons controlling the scares? Why is there a force field around the cabin? Are they all fake and is someone just trying to terrify them? And what, in the name of all things holy, is up with those terrifying white masks?
The film may seem at first blush like a rip-off, but I have the feeling it's going to be anything but and I can't wait to test that theory. It opens in April.
After years of anticipation, it better be as good as promised!
Does this look the same as the others to you?
