Remember the whole big deal that blew up last year when a video of Miley Cyrus huffing from a bong went viral. Relax, it's just salvia -- legal, but trippy, salvia -- she assured us. For this year's birthday celebration, however, she revealed that she may have indeed moved on to some stronger stuff, or (gasp!) that she might not have been telling the whole truth in the past.
At a party to celebrate her 19th birthday in Hollywood last week, there was plenty of "madness and craziness," including a unicorn walking around the joint. But what has created the most, uh ... buzz, is a video obtained by The Daily in which the former Hannah Montana star gave some insight into one of her favorite hobbies.
When presented with her cake, she said:
You know you’re a stoner when friends make you a Bob Marley cake. You know you smoke way too much f***in’ weed.
Party planner and friend Kelly Osbourne totally busted her, and replied, "I thought salvia was your problem, man?"
Touche, Kelly, and no wonder you thought the unicorn would be such a nice trippy touch. Watch the exchange for yourself.
So I guess now we know. I'm sure there will now be another big outrage that Miley is a bad example for kids around the world, and good lord, they will all turn into potheads now. She was once on Disney, for goodness' sake.
Honestly, it would be great if she wouldn't flaunt her penchant for pot in this manner, if for no other reasons than her health and the fact that it is illegal and police may be more alert around her concert bus now. But as far as the whole role model thing, meh, I don't really think she owes us anything.
As parents, we can't expect anyone in Hollywood to be role models for our children, because the fact is that they -- like our children -- make mistakes and will continue to do so. It's up to us to instill the right messages to temper what they get everywhere from Hollywood to their homeroom classmates. We can't erase all the wrong messages out there, no matter how hard we try. What we can do is try to send stronger right ones and hope they get through to them.
As Cyrus told Harper's Bazar earlier this year:
My job isn’t to tell your kids how to act or how not to act because I’m still figuring that out for myself. To take that away from me is a bit selfish. Your kids are going to make mistakes whether I do or not. That’s just life.
Some, like Taylor Swift, may disagree, and good for her and her pure ways, but I think she overestimates her responsibility -- or at least the amount of responsibility I want to put on any celebrity for the well being of my children. She recently told 60 Minutes: “I think it’s my responsibility to know it and to be conscious of it. It would be really easy to say I’m 21 now, I do what I want. You raise your kids! But it’s not the truth of it. The truth of it is- every singer out there with songs on the radio is raising the next generation.”
If that's the truth, then I'm scared.
What do you think of Miley Cyrus's comments about being a stoner? Do you think she owes it to kids to be a role model?

So glad my girls have no clue who the heck this chick is WOOOHOOOO.
I don't really care what Miley does and I hope she is having fun with her youth. My kids knew and loved Miley in the Hannah Montana days but they don't follow her now. My kids love her, as they love a lot of Disney and Nick stars but I'm not going to be mad if they are off enjoying themselves how they want. Their job of being a good 'role model' stops when the credits role at the end of their 30 minutes. The rest of t is me.
Hey Snoop Dog does alright for himself.
It's just pot, no big deal. I used to love Miley, then I hated her. Now I think I love her again for atleast admitting she is a stoner. ~ :)
I generally agree with the points raised in this article. Miley was being a dumb kid when she bragged about smoking "too much effing weed", but it's her business if she does it. At least she hasn't moved on to coke yet. But I gotta disagree with people who say it's harmless. I mean, no, it's not going to kill you and it's definitely not what they said it was in D.A.R.E. classes, but like any drug, it does affect lives. I know people who can't go anywhere or do anything without smoking first. They miss out on good jobs because they can't abstain long enough to pass a "piss test". They don't apply themselves in the world like they otherwise might have. And you gotta admit, the loudest proponents for cannabis legalization are always really scruffy-looking, which I don't think is a coincidence. People say marijuana isn't addictive, but one can get mentally dependent anything, and that is certainly the case with pot.
It's her birthday party, and it's her life.. she can smoke weed if she wants. If your kids turn out shitty, that's on you not her.
She dosent owe anyone shit. Just bc she is in the public eye dosent mean she has to act a certain way & on the flip side just bc she is in the public eye dosent mean she needs to be my childs role model.
I dont care two flips that she smokes weed. If it were legal you better believe I would be smoking it & if the government dosent get their act together & make it legal then when my daughter turns 18 I'll be back to smoking.

Can't let this go. You do not HUFF salvia, you smoke it. And Marijuana is NOT stronger stuff. Geez lady, do you do ANY research before writing this dribble?? Salvia is actually MUCH WORSE for you then marijuana. You also seem to have conveniently left out that Kelly Osbourne explained via some social network(I don't care enough to remember which) that the cake was a JOKE in reference to the whole media buzz over the picture of her hitting a bong.

As for her health? You obviously do NOT know anything about marijuana except the lies that the government feeds you. You should really educate yourself. The smoke is bad for your lungs, but there are machines that take away the smoke all together.
And really, Taylor Swift has a different boyfriend every week and seems a bit self absorbed......
I have grown to really dislike all of your articles.....
