Michelle Obama Welcomes the Kardashians in Her Home

kardashiansIn case you haven't heard, on Monday The Stir got the chance to sit down with First Lady Michelle Obama at the White House. NBD. We go way back.

After tackling issues on the more serious side, such as the importance of health and fitness in today's schools and how to be a role model for your children, the conversation went to the place all conversations among groups of women inevitably go: Reality TV. The Kardashians, more specifically.

When asked if there were any TV shows that she and the President put limitations on for daughters Sasha and Malia, Michelle revealed that Barack doesn't love it when he catches the girls watching the Kardashians. But Michelle feels differently. Sort of. Here's what she had to say:

Barack really thinks some of the Kardashians ... when they watch that stuff he doesn't like that as much. But I sort of feel like if we're talking about it -- and I'm more concerned with how they take it in -- what did you learn when you watched that? And if they're learning the right lessons, like, that was crazy, then I'm like, okay. So, it requires a lot -- it is the reality of where they are.

Two things here: One, Mrs. Obama has a pretty amazing -- realistic -- view on the Kardashians, and reality TV in general. I mean, really, there's no avoiding it. So, if you can turn it into a lesson, more power to you. And two, how cool is it that the Kardashians are even talked about in the White House? Like, the President of the United States has had discussions about Kim, Kourtney, and Khloe in the halls that JFK once walked. Unbelievable.

Even though the sisters are krazy popular, it's hard to intellectualize the fact that the leader of the free world actually knows who they are. How does he have time? But then you realize, well, he is human, he does have kids, and the Kardashians are every which way you turn. It's pretty cool. I wonder if he watched Kim's Fairtytale Wedding? Hey, I wonder if he'll inspire other government officials to watch their show? Maybe John Boehner will check it out next (out of curiosity, of course)? Obama could make the Kardashians even more famous (if that's possible). He sort of did it to Jersey Shore's Snooki. Kris Jenner has to be in heaven right now!

Despite the fact that he might not necessarily be the biggest fan of them, the Kardashians should feel pretty damn proud today. Barack Obama knows who they are. And he's getting people to talk about them -- even more.

Are you surprised the President knows who the Kardashians are?

Good for the President for not liking them that much because I know I sure don't!  I find them quite obnoxious.  I can kinda understand Michelle's point about letting the girls watch it and then talking to them about it.  It's good to talk to your kids about the things they watch and see what they learned from it.

The kardashians are a loose bunch of low lives. The way they live, behave, dress and air their dirty laundry. You can't make a silk purse from a swines ear. There's nothing to learn from watching that garbage show. Obama is a smart man and wants his children to grow up to become decent human beings. Get that trash off of TV.

yes i think the Kardashians are a great role model for us to learn by male or female.
