I should have known this day was coming. It's just that out of all the Sister Wives, Christine always seemed so well-adjusted, so genuinely okay with her marriage that every now and then, I'd almost think that maybe the plural wives thing could actually work for some people. Maybe. Well, probably not, but hey, you never know.
But now that even Christine, measured, balanced Christine with her indomitable pioneer spirit, seems ready to throw in the towel ... well, let me put it this way. Meri's nose has been out of joint since the first episode of the first season. Can mutiny be far away?
Everybody was expecting the big "drama" of last night's episode to revolve around Kody and pregnant fourth wife Robyn's announcement of their new baby's gender (SPOILER ALERT: It's a boy!). Instead, the real jaw-dropping moments came by way of Christine's quietly sad couch confessions.
"I don't know if I care if it's perfect anymore, or if it's what he wants anymore," she said, sounding like all the fight had gone out of her. "It's just so much work."
"I know for years and years we had a great marriage ... I just don't know what I want anymore."
Whoa!
I believe Christine when she says she doesn't blame Robyn at all for the fact that Kody "coddles" her and pays more attention to Robyn and her kids than anyone else in the family. In Christine's eyes (which, don't forget, view this marital situation as normal), Robyn is just fulfilling her duty as a fellow sister wife. She's not doing anything wrong. It's Kody who's slacking in his role as patriarch.
And I agree with her. Kody seems to think the current discord with Christine is a "jealousy" issue (of course he does!). But Christine isn't jealous, she just isn't getting what she needs.
Unfortunately, unless Kody clones himself, I doubt she ever will.
Were you surprised to see Christine looking so unhappy in her marriage?

Courtney, the very last sentence says it all. You can only speak for YOU. YOU know how YOU would handle it but you don't know how every other woman on the planet would handle it. The comment that I made was about people saying that this is just proof that polygamist marriages will never work. The comments were blanket statements about how that person views relationships and they assume that all women feel the way they do, when they don't. These women have explained HOW they can enjoy and feel fulfilled in this type of relationship in previous episodes (ones that I've seen) and how they feel that their deity wants this for them. They feel that the tests in this kind of relationship makes them stronger. I don't know how I'd do in a relationship like this but I can understand their explanation enough to respect their decision and not look for every bump in the road to prove that their marriage is BS, ya know?
in reading this article and all of these comments, I see alot of people projecting their own feelings onto this family. When watching the show, I see people who are being honest about their feelings, not afraid to show them, and really trying to figure out how to stay together as they have for all these years prior to having to move to Nevada. I don't see anyone as doormat, these are strong women, and it shows the true emotions that Kody has to go through to keep them all together. I hope they all do make it, against all odds of being on television while trying to make it all work.
I think the move has been the hardest on Christine. In Utah she was the last wife, a stay-at-home mom and had the youngest child. Now Robin is in the mix, Robin is pregnant; Christine has had to go to work along with Cody and Janelle. On top of everyone in different homes. It's a big adjustment all at once.
This is pathetic! Kody is no more than a "dog" wanting his cake and eat it too. No apologize for calling him that, freedom of speech! I personally think they should all be forced to divorce and he has 1 wife (like the rest of the country) or be put in prison for breaking the law.
For the most part, there sure are a lot of negative comments made about this alternative lifestyle....if you don't want it fine, but quit hating just because they want something that is out of the mainstream...so what if YOU can't imagine it, this is what they like and what suits them...most of the time they make it work for them...all marriages, plural or not go thru struggles, theirs just happens to occur on TV for all of us to view. Quit beating up on him and the 4 women for being different....they love each other, let them work it out.
Personally, I can't imagine being in a homosexual relationship and think it's gross, but so what, other's like it so whatever they do is their own business....yes, it's being played out on tv, but that's because there is obvious interest in them and their lifestyle...you don't like it, don't watch it (it might go away) and don't get into a polygamist or polyamourist lifestyle.
Maybe this marriage would work better if all the women were bisexual and could give each other attention when Kody's stretched too thin.
I think this whole family fell apart when Robyn came into the picture. Has anyone else noticed that in every show and in every interview she cries? That is all she does! For 16 years these people had a well adjusted family and then here comes Robyn to screw the whole thing up. Kody made a huge mistake in marrying her. I know he wanted a hot young trophy wife. I don't think she is that much of a prize IMHO.
