Amber Portwood's Hospitalization Is a Wake-Up Call

amber portwoodTeen Mom Amber Portwood isn't doing so well ... again. Just six weeks out of rehab, the 21-year-old mother of Leah, 2, was hospitalized on Wednesday for severe panic attacks and difficulty breathing. She was in rehab in Malibu to treat her depression and anger management problems, but it would seem that she didn't get all the help she probably needed. Amber told E! News that she still feels suicidal.

We all know that the troubled teen mom hasn't had an easy go of it. From suicide attempts to domestic violence charges to custody battles to rumors of a drinking problem, Amber's been through the ringer. However, maybe this latest hospitalization is the wake-up call she, and her family, needed.

Because someone's gotta do something. We were all hopeful when Amber checked out of rehab and flew straight to Indiana to spend quality time with her daughter in August because it was sort of like she had a new lease on life -- Amber was supposedly in better control and in a better head-space after her treatment, but now it seems like she's gone back to her old ways.

She explained:

Honestly, I feel like I did two months ago. I'm still suicidal. I'm f-cking depressed. My family's not together.

She's been chided for not visiting Leah that often, but retorts that she sees her daughter whenever she can. Since ex-boyfriend Gary has custody, there are rules on when she can and can't visit her little one.

Amber clearly needs help. She's depressed, she's panicking so much so that she stopped breathing and was sent to the ER, and she's lonely. I mean, she said that she's having thoughts of suicide. Can't someone step in here and insist she gets good advice and aid? Maybe she could see a therapist twice a week, or try a different rehab facility.

The important thing is that someone hears Amber's patent cries for help. Possibly her mom, or Gary's family, or heck, even Dr. Drew could intervene and give Amber the support she needs right now. Even if she's making this all up for attention, which I don't believe is the case, lying would still be a sign that something isn't right. It would be a tragedy if Amber goes unheard.

Do you think Amber is just trying to get attention? Or do you think she's in real danger?

Amber definitely needs help. I seriously do not believe that this is a cry for attention but a cry for help. She's still a child, in a sense, and needs some serious guidance. I can tell she loves her daughter dearly and it is because of her daughter that she went to rehab in the first least that's my opinion. She has so much to offer, she just needs to believe in herself. My heart breaks for her. She needs to be reminded that she is worth loving. She has a lot of growing up to do, but what some people don't realize or care is that doesn't happen over night. I have a lot of faith in her and I know she can do anything she sets her mind too. She just needs to believe in herself and reach for those goals.

I think Amber definitely needs help, and some time away from the public eye.  Unfortunately, I get the feeling that Amber has yet to hit rock bottom.

Amber has needed help from the beginning, but all people cared about is judging that little teen mom that got on t.v.

She obviously was struggling with something mentally from the get go. She needed help then. She was on tv and probably ended up getting more scrutiny and judgement than she thought. No matter what anyone says, she was a teenager. A child and even an adult may not always understand the magnitude of the judgement they may face after going on tv.

When she attempted suicide a ton of people just called her an attention seeker. I guess it will take an actual death for anyone to wake the heck up and realize what jerks they are for constantly judging without knowing.

Was her behavior bad and annoying? Of course, but I could tell a little more counseling and support may have done wonders. Instead she gets to watch her dad slowly die and then get picked apart by the whole country for her every move.

I hope she gets help and some time out of the public eye. The public is cruel and disgusting.

I don't know what her life really is like so I don't know if its for attention but Leah really should be removed from her care until she's over this because its dangerous to be that depressed and suicidal while caring for a child, that's how babies get killed. Hope someone helps her.

A lot of this stuff is caused by the stupid tv shows.  They give them all this fame than the show is over and so is all the fame.  Than it is all down hill for them.  I think more teens should give the babies up for adoption to loving families without children.  Than the teen can grow up and finish school, Child is raised in a two parent home.  I have raised my teen daughter that children should be born later when your done with education and find the man you wish to raise a family with.  50% of my high school which my daughter attends now is having children.  Maybe teen moms need something better than a show.

Malibu? Sounds more like vacation then rehab. She needs to get her shit together. I see how it could be tough w/ the media, her family, and what not, but now that I got my girl I would never even think of killing myself.

I have been an Amber supporter since day one and I still am. She needed help from the beginning and MTV capitalized on it instead of helped her. Amber reminds me so much of myself at that age. I was abusive to my boyfriends and battling undiagnosed bipolar disorder. It wasnt easy but now I am a healthy and happy single mom to my son. I see the road that Amber is headed down and I am truly praying for an angel to step in and help her before its too late.

To the people that say the public is cruel. . Yes it is. But then again no one is forcing Amber to come out on tv. I have never liked her but i think for the sake of Leah and herself she needs help . .And motivation. . .And she should def. Get off tv.
