Miley Cyrus tried the whole bad girl thing for awhile, and convinced the world she was swiftly spinning out of control. Last year it seemed everywhere you turned she was pole dancing, flashing her crotch, or huffing salvia from a bong. She seemed determined to prove she "can't be tamed" ... only she really never needed taming, and her new tattoo proves it.
She tweeted a picture of the new ink -- an equal sign -- on Friday, along with a message to followers that read: “ALL LOVE is equal.” Though it kind of looks like stitches to me, it's a nice show of support for a cause she believes in. She's made her marriage equality views known previously through Twitter as well when Casey Anthony was found not guilty on murder charges. She tweeted: “You know the world is skewed when people get away with murdering children but we cant get gay marriage legalized in the state of California.”
Good for her, and maybe some of those who previously blasted and berated her for being the world's worst role model might want to start rethinking that stance. She could certainly get much more publicity for bad girl behavior, but instead she's standing up for what she believes is right with a pretty bold statement. That doesn't mean we're never going to see her doing anything questionable again -- she is still a teenager -- but she's repeatedly showing a true, solid core that will ultimately keep her on the right course.
More evidence: she also announced last week that she'll be returning to Haiti with the Starkey Hearing Foundation to help bring much-needed supplies to deaf children there. In a statement, she said:
After I went on my first mission to Haiti with the Starkey Hearing Foundation, I felt so drawn to helping others hear for the first time and immediately wanted to look for another chance to go back and help again. I grew up around music with my brothers and sisters and couldn’t imagine what it would be like if we couldn’t hear the magic of music -– it’s had such an influence on my life –- so I want everyone to have the ability to enjoy sound as it was intended.
See, she's a nice girl, not a slutty druggie who only cares about partying it up. She may not be Disney clean anymore (who is?), but that's okay; she can still be a role model in many respects. She's 18; she has a good heart; and she's using her position to do good in the world. I'd say that's a lot more admirable than anything Hannah Montana ever did.
Of course, if you're horrified by the thought of your child ever permanently inking up his or her body, then that's another story. This is her eighth tattoo.
What do you think of Miley Cyrus's new tattoo? Do you think she's a good role model for young people?
