Netflix has raised their prices by $6 a month and many are seriously considering boycotting the DVD rental place because of it. And to those people, Jason Alexander (and I, too) must say one thing: CHILLAX.
Seriously, people. We are talking about a few dollars per month for movies. Get over it. The new plan means that those who want both DVDs by mail and streaming online video pay at least $16 per month. Now, Netflix has been bundling both options in a single package for as low as $10 per month.
Jason Alexander has a hilarious take on the devastation many are expressing on Twitter and Facebook over the impending rate hikes. His Funny or Die video says it all: $6, people. This doesn't make Netflix the Internet equivalent of Pol Pot. A little perspective please. See the video below for a good laugh:
Are you laughing? Well, some people really are this upset and it has Netflix worried. What if everyone defects to the Red Box?
Let's face it, Netflix needs to update and change their product if they want to succeed. The streaming is good, but they need better, more current titles if they want to keep their customers.
But for people like me, $16 a month is a very, very small price to pay for the ability to watch a movie a few times a month and not have to trek out to the store.
Get over it people! Let Jason Alexander guide you!

My main issue is just barely months ago, most of the rental places here went out of business, and then suddenly, Netflix decides its going to raise its prices. Not by $1-$2, but by $6. And not only that, not offer ANYTHING more. We can't stream new movies and most of the crap they stream is from the 90's.
Its almost as if they waited until they KNEW they had that upper hand and then raised their prices.
We cancelled it.
Same thing for us Britt.
Yes, if you're going to raise your prices by 60%, please upgrade content as well. I don't think people are mad because they raised their pricess, they're mad because they had the balls to raise their prices by so much yet added absolutely nothing to the service to justify such an increase. It kind of feels like Netflix is telling customers to suck it.
Netflix increased the prices less than a year ago already by a few dollars, I'm sorry but $6 is ridiculous. If you have a cellphone, or say your rent/mortgage and they raise prices by 60% you would be okay with it too? $6 doesn't seem like alot until you think about the actual true % increase. We are cancelling at the end of August.
Convenience beats out spending $5 or 6 in gas to go get a movie. My kids love streaming on the xbox, they like watching old movies. And when something new comes out we just get it on Blu ray. No skin of my back. I'll pay an extra couple bucks for it. Not to mention Blockbuster used to cost about $20 everytime we went anyways. And that was just for a couple movies.
It was only $8 a few months ago, then they jumped to $10, and now $16. They pretty much doubled the price as soon as they ran all of the rental places out of business. We are cutting our service back to instant only and using RedBox for our new releases. The video was funny though.
