Big news this morning: Jesse James and Kat Von D have called off their engagement. Shocker!
Let's face it, the only surprise about their split is that they actually stayed engaged for six whole months. But it's a breakup, and of course, that means everyone wants to know why? What happened between the time Von D gushed about being "the luckiest girl in the world" in a promo for her show, LA Ink, which premieres this week (hint, hint), and this brutal breakup?
They're being cagey of course, so they can milk it for all it's worth (which is very little in my opinion). She was, however, able to halt her heartbreak long enough to tweet the news:
I am no longer w Jesse, and out of respect for him, his family and myself, thats all the info I'd like to share. Thanks for respecting that.
As for James, he told People:
I'm so sad because I really love her. The distance between us was just too much.
But love knows no boundaries, Jesse ... which I'm sure he'll quote (perhaps verbatim) when they get back together again ... then break up, then ...
The real reason they broke up is pretty clear. They are media whores first and foremost, and hello -- the new season of LA Ink premiers this Thursday. Could they be any more obvious?! I bet they were really pissed when Kristin Cavallari and Jay Cutler had to go and break up this weekend, stealing all the good headlines. Good thing that buzz has died down a bit so they have a few days before the show starts to be "the" breakup couple.
They've tried to leak rumors before of their spilt in the past, and taken to Twitter to fuel them further. He has divulged intimate details about his sex life with Sandra Bullock, forgiven himself for cheating on her, and anything else he thinks will snag a headline. This breakup is just the latest ploy.
I will actually be a little sad if they truly do go their separate ways. He's a slime ball; she's irrelevant; and together they're perfect. Now that they've split (if they've really split), they'll just go out and pull others into their toxic web (if they haven't already).
Watch for the tweets, people. This -- unfortunately -- isn't the last we've heard of this couple and their drama.
Do you think Jesse James and Kat Von D broke up for publicity?
