Kim Kardashian's Old Navy Lookalike Makes Her Even More Famous

by Maressa Brown on July 20, 2011 at 4:03 PM

melissa molinaro old navy adOld Navy is practically known for their quirky ad campaigns that make us scratch our heads or do a double-take. You know, first they had those strange mannequins, and then, the chick, Melissa Molinaro, who looks eerily like a certain reality TV star's doppleganger. But Kim Kardashian herself isn't amused. No siree! In fact, the star bride-to-be is filing a lawsuit against the clothing retailer, according to TMZ. She says the company "intentionally used a look-alike in an effort to dupe the public into thinking Kim was affiliated with Old Navy."

And, oh yeah, she's annoyed that Old Navy tweeted to her page about Melissa ("@CBSNEWS reports that Old Navy's Super CUTE star looks like @kimkardashian. #LOL. What do you think?") as a publicity stunt.

Agh. I know, it's annoying, but really, Kim, a lawsuit? Can't she just see Old Navy's campaign in the same vein as the scathingly hilarious brand of satire Weird Al inflicts on pop stars?

In other words, Kim should be flattered she's made it so deep into the mainstream pop culture lexicon that Old Navy -- a store just about every American has shopped in at one time or another -- is trying to capitalize on a nod to her image. This, in turn, makes her even MORE famous!

By the way, they didn't actually rip off anything trademarked by Kim. And if people are stupid enough to think Melissa IS Kim, then that's their problem. Kim should realize that her real fans know better. They're the ones shopping at DASH, signing up for Shoe Dazzle, tuning in on Sunday nights to E!, etc. Because of that, I'm pretty sure her wallet isn't suffering as a result of any Old Navy stunt.

Sure, I get why Kim would be irritated by the whole thing, but ultimately, she should laugh it off. Instead of getting mad, she should get even. Get Old Navy to cough up to have her appear with Melissa in another commercial. Or do her own spot for one of her own brands, mocking Old Navy for their silly Designer Impostor Kim! Any company would be hard-pressed to top that.

What do you think of Kim's lawsuit?

I get why she is annoyed but suing is over the top. I'd be really annoyed too, though.

Reggie Bush is actually dating Melissa Molinaro. Nothing says 'I'm over my ex' like dating her look-alike? http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2011/06/22/reggie-bush-now-dating-kim-impersonator_n_882234.html

Actually, if Kim wants to protect her brand, she has to sue. She has to be able to show a precedence of defending her brand if she wants to maintain copywrite protection. The courts have ruled against plaintiffs in the past because they haven't aggressively defended themselves previously.

That's stupid. Old Navy can hire whoever they want. So does Kim think this lady shouldn't work anywhere, because she can't change her looks! Get over yourself!!

that is ridiculous. The girl who 'looks like her' has just as much right to earn a living. other companies will be too scared to touch her after this. she'll never get another modeling job! I cannot stand the Kardashians. talentless boring reality show idiots. GET THE F OVER IT, KIM!

Impotent gentlemen never ever experienced it so excellent. Viagra pioneered the oral cure for Impotence Problems. And the baton, it appears, has long been transferred to Cialis. Between, Levitra also produced its existence felt. But Cialis is the upcoming drug which has the whole world on its toes.
