Just when you thought it couldn't get any better than Adam Mansbach's book 'Go the F**K to Sleep,' along comes Samuel L. Jackson doing the audio for it. It's a match made in audiobook heaven; he nails it.
If you're not familiar with the book, it looks like a sweet kids' story, with cute little illustrations of slumbering children, but it's anything but sweet. It's filled with f-bombs that oh-so-perfectly express the frustration parents experience when putting their children to bed. While a PDF of the book went viral last month, the actual book went on sale yesterday, and along with it the official audiobook recorded by Jackson.
I didn't think I could laugh any harder than when I first read it, but Jackson's interpretation just brings it to life. It's f**king hysterical. Make sure there are no little ears near and listen for yourself:
To celebrate the book's launch, the New York Public Library yesterday hosted an event at which famed director Werner Herzog's reading of the book was played. His version left me in tears too, and the accent definitely adds a little something. It's a little scarier than Jackson's version, but bedtime is a pretty scary time at our house. So I don't know; I'm torn which one I like better as I love them both. Check out Herzog's version here and see what you think:
Whose audio version of 'Go the F**K to Sleep' do you think is funnier -- Samuel Jackson or Werner Herzog? Who else would you like to hear read the book?
