'Real Housewives' Is Turning Ramona Singer Into a Lush

by Nicole Fabian-Weber on June 10, 2011 at 1:27 PM

ramona signerRamona Singer, lover of sun-shaped True Faith necklaces, pinot grigio, and of course her marriage (which, in case you haven't heard, has never been better), is denying that one of her affinities has become a problem. No, it's not the necklaces; The Real Housewives of New York star maintains a healthy balance of star-shaped pendants to long, thin chains. It's her drinking. She's claiming that the only reason Bravo has been emphasizing her alkie ways is because they're short on drama this season. Which -- sarcasm alert! -- if you happened to catch last night's "Close your eyes, now open them" episode, you're probably thinking she might be right.

The oenophile recently told In the Mixx that she just likes to have wine with a beautiful dinner, and that she thinks Bravo thinks the story lines are so bad on The Real Housewives of New York that they had to make up this story.

Yeah ... 'cause if you haven't had two glasses of wine by 11 a.m., you're just weird.

She also mentioned how they're always filmed at social events -- which, fine, people drink at them. But why does Ramona always seem to take it a step further? Is it because she's just spastic by nature? Or is it because she really is drinking more than everybody else? I think it's a little of both.

There's no question that Ramona is ... a wild card. You never know what you're going to get from her -- what she's going to say, what she's going to do, blah blah blah. When we see her when she's dead sober (or is she?), she's already kind of nutty. Then, when you add a little booze to the mix, watch out. You're going to get diarrhea of the mouth Ramona 2.0, or Turtle Time Ramona. Both are bizarre. Both are entertaining.

That said, she definitely seems to need "her medicine" more than anybody else on the show -- or more than anyone I've ever met. A few weeks ago, she was acting like a crack head when she didn't have her pinot grigio at Jill's event (and it was really early). And then there was the time that Cindy didn't have any for her at her birthday party. And last night, Sonja and Alex were basically feeding her wine through a bottle after her fight with Jill. That's not normal!

If Ramona does have a drinking problem -- and it seems like she might have an itty bitty one -- I hope she gets help. But while she's causing so much drama on Real Housewives, I don't see that happening any time soon, if ever.

Do you think Ramona has a drinking problem?

If Ramona doesn't have an issue with alcohol, then I'd be so angry with Bravo if I was her. They most definitely have portrayed it as such. I struggle with how much of it is for the Bravo drama. Yet, she does a lot more drinking and a lot earlier in the day than most people. I hope her husband has his eyes wide open if she does. It would be sad if it's true. She's got enough baggage without the alcohol on board! I don't dislike her at all. She is, like you said, just kinda kooky. Hope it's not true.

Ramona made a complete ass of herself everywhere she went, wanting her wine to drink. Yes, I think she has a problem with drinking, I really do not like her.

I think if Ramona did indeed have a drinking problem, she would be hiding her drinking rather than openly touting the wonders of Pinot Grigio. And, the other (some of the other) women are quick to point out Ramona's age and that she may be experiencing menopause, (somewhat gleefully may I add). That would also explain the "quirky" emotional and erratic behavior so often captured on film. Anyone having experienced menopause knows about the terrific mood swings and shifts, emotionality etc. give Ramona a break, already. And if indeed she has a problem with the drink it is none of our business. You never tell someone what they already know!

I like Ramona, if she's in her 50's she may well be experiencing menopause, that would explain hermood swings and shifts, emotionality etc. ,

Ramona is a lush! Come on; ordering her wine and expecting people to deliver it to her, as if she were something special. I like Jill. She has Jewish Common Sense. Patricia Marano Slotkin
