For awhile it looked like having circus animals at your wedding was all you needed to be among the hottest and hippest marrying couples in Hollywood, only now it seems you need to start planning much sooner -- with a super quick engagement. Twilight star Nikki Reed and former America Idol contestant Paul McDonald are just the latest to hop on this super hot speed train toward the alter.
The two got engaged recently after just three short months of dating. What's the rush? Slow down! You need to take some time to think about things, say the romance-killing critics. But you know what, it kind of makes sense. Hollywood marriages have gotten progressively shorter over the years, so why not speed up the rest of the process too? Dating can be so dull, after all; and in our infant-gratification-based society, why wait? Reed and McDonald join an impressive roster of others who have recently raced or are currently racing to the alter including the following:
Kim Kardashian and Kris Humphries are likely responsible for starting -- or at least widely publicizing -- the glamour of going for it after knowing each other for only a few months. The baller and reality TV queen got engaged just six months after they started dating. The impending nuptials are supposedly already being planned for the end of the summer, so the engagement period itself is in super drive too.
Of course, Kim shouldn't get all the glory (like usual) for this trend. Her little sister Khloe Kardashian and Lamar Odom really set the train in motion when they got engaged AND married just a little over a month after meeting each other. All you have to do is watch Khloe & Lamar to see how well that's working out, so why wouldn't the rest of the world want to follow suit?
Others who went before them and actually have a pretty good track record (so far) with mad dashes to the alter include Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes (just two months from meeting to engagement -- couch jumping included); and Katy Perry and Russell Brand who said three months was plenty of time to know, since it was love at first sight. Awww. (Note: They had elephants at their wedding too, so they are doubly hip.)
So be warned the rest of you American dating masses. We know how Hollywood trends have a way of trickling throughout the rest of the country; your next first date could soon be your mate.
What do you think of this mad dash to the alter trend brewing in Hollywood?
