Leslie Nielsen Gets One Last Bittersweet Joke

Sasha Brown-Worsham

When beloved comedic actor Leslie Nielsen died last fall, it seemed he took all his hilarious and awesome lines with him, but true to form, Nielsen couldn't rest in peace until he got one final joke in. And this one is on his headstone.

According to TMZ, Nielsen's headstone reads: "Leslie Nielsen; Feb 11, 1926 - Nov 28, 2010; 'Let 'er rip.'"

Apparently he picked the stone out years before his death, but for a man so famous for his absolutely pitch-perfect humor and delivery, it does seem a little strange to make your lasting legacy a fart joke, no? Of course, this is no ordinary fart joke.

The man was famous for lines like:

It's the same old story. Boy finds girl, boy loses girl, girl finds boy, boy forgets girl, boy remembers girl, girl dies in a tragic blimp accident over the Orange Bowl on New Year's Day.

He made fart jokes, but he made a lot of other, better jokes, too. But for a last line, this one is perfect for Nielsen. It takes a pretty awesome, unique character to make his lasting legacy a fart joke.

Love it or hate it, you have to admire that conviction. Nielsen knew who he was and what he did. He made us all laugh. And look, now he has done it again and will continue doing it for all eternity. Surely, this makes him one of the funniest of all time.

But then we knew that. And now let's just hope he really is resting in peace. Or "RIP(ing)" for all eternity.

Leslie Nielsen, you were one of a kind!

Do you like the joke?
