"The feel bad movie of Christmas" doesn't sound so cheery, but it's the perfect sell for the U.S. movie version of The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo, which is set to hit theatres December 21. A trailer for the movie just leaked, and it looks as intense and incredible as the book by Stieg Larsson on which it's based.
This isn't the official trailer (which is supposed to be released June 2), but rather a pirated red-band one for the film. Whoever leaked it did filmmaker, David Fincher nothing but a favor, because it just ups the anticipation for the film fans everywhere are dying to see. Check it out and see what you think:
Rooney Mara plays Lisbeth Salander, and Daniel Craig is Mikael Blomkvist. The images, the music (Trent Reznor and Karen O singing Led Zeppelin’s “Immigrant Song.”), and just the feel of it are perfect. It so accurately captures so many of the memorable scenes in just a little over a minute and 30 seconds. It's amazing -- one of the best trailers I've seen in awhile ... IF you've read the book. If you haven't, I'm not sure it will do much for you.
It took me three tries to get into the book. I don't typically gravitate toward suspense and murder mysteries, and I just couldn't see what all the hype was about until I got past the first few chapters, but once I did, I was hooked. It's gripping, and one of those books that you continue to think about long after you've finished it. This trailer packs plenty of promise that the movie will bring more of the same.
This isn't the first time the book has been adapted for film. A Swedish version was released in 2009, and it's good, but I have to say this looks better -- much better.
What do you think of this trailer for The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo? Have you read the book?
