Justin Bieber kisses Selena GomezWell, last night at the Billboard Music Awards, when Justin Bieber, 17, laid a big, soft, public KISS on his girlfriend Selena Gomez, 18 -- making their relationship official to the world for once and for all -- teen hearts broke and Prozac prescription renewals hit an all-time high (just kidding; they didn't really). Does this mean the pop star boy wonder is officially all grown up, no longer the mama's boy he's always been billed?
No longer a mama's boy! Bite your tongue!
There is nothing, I repeat, nothing wrong with being a "mama's boy." And I, for one, hope Justin is one for the rest of his days. Mama's boys are the best kinds of boys there are, after all, and the best kinds of boyfriends. Guys who respect their mothers often treat their partners well, too. Lucky Selena!
In fact, I just made my boys watch Justin Bieber's movie Never Say Never with me so they could see how well Justin plays the drums much Justin loves his mom and how that makes him extra awesome. My boys seemed much more fascinated by how many girls "love" him and that he rides a Segway around at work, but maybe the message got in their heads a little bit when I said, "See how much he loves his mom still?" every six or seven minutes during the film.
So it was no surprise to me that the Biebs kissed his girlfriend but then thanked his truest leading lady -- Moms -- in his speech, right after God and his fans. He said:
My mom, you've been amazing, you've been traveling with me putting up with all my crap. And I love you, and you're amazing.
Aside from the sweet kiss, no thanks went out to his now-official girlfriend Selena though, and rightly so. She just hasn't been around long enough to deserve that kind of shout-out. Oh no. Moms is still where it's at. Only time will tell if Selena Gomez can live up to Justin's mom Pattie Mallette's beautiful parental influence (I got your back, Pattie).
Justin Bieber took home six awards last night, including Top New Artist, Top Social Artist, Top Streaming Artist, Top Digital Media Artist, Top Pop Album for My World 2.0, and Top Streaming Song (Video) for "Baby" featuring Ludacris.
And then he went home with his mother.
