Oprah WinfreyLet the extreme Oprah lovefest begin! Love her or hate her, the end is near, the very end of 25 years of afternoons with Oprah and The Oprah Winfrey Show. Personally, I mark this as the end of having a guaranteed go-to place for a good cry over something other than my own trifling personal problems. What ever shall I do now? God, how I love a really good cry.
For Oprah's fast-approaching farewell shows, which were taped last night and producers are calling Surprise Oprah! A Farewell Spectacular, they've lined up an all-star mix of celebrity guests to surprise the Queen of Daytime Talk. The two-part finale is scheduled to air May 23 and 24, but don't you want a sneak peek at who and what to expect? I'm crying with anticipation over what might be my very last good cry-a-thon!
Spoilers!!! Spoilers!!! Spoilers!!!
Well, we know for sure that Tom Hanks, Tom Cruise, Madonna, Maria Shriver (who looked HOT; suck it, Arnold!), and Tyler Perry are on the show. Tweets from various celebrities on Twitter reveal still other guests like Rosie O'Donnell, Will Smith, Jada Pinkett Smith, Alicia Keys, Josh Groban, Simon Cowell, Usher, Aretha Franklin (wow!), Stevie Wonder (double wow!), Jerry Seinfeld, Maya Angelou (love her!), Michael Jordan, Kristin Chenoweth, three of her talk show proteges Dr. Oz, Dr. Phil, and Nate Berkus, and, of course, BFF Gayle King and her longtime sweetheart Stedman Graham. There will also be musical performances by Beyonce and Jamie Foxx (unsure if we'll see the aforementioned musicians perform, but I hope so!).
Dang, only Oprah can round up such a star-studded goodbye party. I can't wait to cry when she sees all her surprise guests!
According to RadarOnline, Oprah fought back tears (me too, Oprah, me too!) as poet Maya Angelou said:
big-eyed fat girl from Mississippi decided to show the world how to look at itself … how to change itself. I can and I will and I shall be Oprah, Oprah, Oprah ...
Oh, oh, I'm feeling a good cry coming on ...
Then Oprah's sweetie Stedman reportedly said these lovely words to Oprah:
You know what really is amazing? You have done this, sweetheart, through all of the sacrifices you've made, humility you have, and through God's amazing grace.
Teary-eyed success! Yesssss ... God, Oprah makes it so easy. I love this shit.
Get out your hankies, people, because Oprah is leaving. This is it! From now on, you're responsible to find your own sad stories to cry about.
