NFL star Hines Ward, wide receiver for the Pittsburgh Steelers, is also a top contender on Season 12 of Dancing With the Stars, but today he was not dancing a very happy jig. Ward was held at gunpoint in Los Angeles Thursday by authorities in what turned out to be a mix-up regarding a stolen car.
Hines was riding in a Honda Civic with a female friend who had reported the car stolen a few weeks ago. Although she had recovered the vehicle, she never informed the police department. They were pulled over and Ward was handcuffed before it was sorted out.
On his Facebook page, Ward said:
I want everyone to know that this was a complete misunderstanding. The police were just doing their job. Apologies were made and it's now in the past.
But what will this mean for the show?
Right now, the show is in it's eighth week and only five couples remain. Ward and his partner Kym Johnson are fan and judge favorites, but with only five people left in the competition, any deviation can be a fatal misstep.
Say it ain't so, Hines!
Hopefully, he will be able to get his head back in the game and his dancing shoes back on his feet. Now is not the time for petty distractions and silliness. Actually, let's start a rumor here and now. I suspect Maksim Chmerkovskiy is somehow behind this. He is slick, he is in it to win it and I am guessing he has a way with the LAPD.
Eliminating the competition, eh Maks? Well, we are onto you! There will be none of that! My best guess right now is that if he can keep his head in the game -- something the celebrated football player ought to be familiar with -- he can take it down to the final two.
I see both Ward and Chelsea Kane battling it out in the finals. But only one can win, so really Hines, this is not the time for late night exploits, the appearance of illegal activities and mix-ups with the police.
Focus! Be in it to win it! Monday night, he is back on live TV and he better be dancing to win.
Do you think this will affect his chances?
