If your Mother's Day includes sitting down with mom and bonding over Terms of Endearment, you're on the right track. But be careful with your Netflix queue, so you don't wind up with a movie that simply makes you and mom uncomfortable, nauseated, and wishing you were watching the screen with anybody else other than each other.
In other words -- steer clear of mom-unfriendly flicks.
While you may be comfortable watching Borat with mom, there are some limits. Limits that usually shock us, and not in a hilarious Sacha Baron Cohen way. Here are five films you should never, ever, watch with your mother:
Precious: Based on the Novel 'Push' by Sapphire
If you're a mother or a daughter, you won't even want to watch this movie of horrific abuse by yourself. Contemplating how incredibly awful a mom can be to her daughter together with your own mom is just not a great way to spend Mother's Day.
While this documentary is worth a watch to try to wrap your head around the dangerous world of hysteria and false sex abuse accusations, do you really want to discuss child care abuse with your mother on her big day? Nope.
Lars von Trier really pushed the limits too far in this tale of self- and partner-mutilation following the death of a child. There is bloody masturbation and more! Skip it.
Let's just explore the drudgery of motherhood and adultery and watch a registered child sex abuser all at the same time, shall we? No, we shan't.
Especially ill-advised if you've ever felt your mother really loved your sibling best. Also, you don't want to see this very ugly side of Mary Tyler Moore if you and your mom bonded over America's sweetheart taking Milwaukee.

Personally I loved Precious and I'm a daughter as well as a mother. But I doubt I would watch it with my mom. She's spend the whole movie saying "see, and you thought you had it bad" lol!
I'd add to the list While Oleander. Another movie I love. But it is about a mom who goes to jail, forcing her only daughter into one bad foster home after another.... while the mom manipulates and worsens the girls life from behind bars. Great movie! Just not for mothers day...
For the love - never, ever, watch The Black Swan with your mother, or mother-in-law like I did.
Read all about the awesome awkwardness here (cringe): http://cosmicnoodles.blogspot.com/2011/01/blonde-beyonce-black-swan-akwardness.html
Stepmom with Julia Roberts and Susan Sarandon (sp ?) i watched it with my mom when i was very young (like 10) and it was so sad. She told me to promise if something ever happened to her i would hate anyone my dad dated. she didn't really mean it, but she passed away 3 years later. i still remember that. and yes, i hate my dad's gf
I wouldn't watch any of those.
You should add Thirteen in there too.
Learned the hard way how awkward that was. Especially because I was kind of like that.
I say don't watch monster-in-law with your mother in law. . .some parts in that movie reminded me of her!
Thanks for the advice.
