When I first heard there was a Cowboys & Aliens movie coming out, I thought: "Great, another kids' movie I won't want to see that my kids will insist on attending." It's not that. My next thought was, "Oh no! Another 'guy movie' I won't want to see that my husband will drag me to." It's not that either!

Cowboys & Aliens is the new movie from Jon Favreau that is a sci-fi western mash-up and looks like it's going to be highly entertaining for everyone.

The film, which stars Harrison Ford and Daniel Craig, debuted a full-length trailer during the April 14 episode of American Idol. It looks promising. See below:

The thing with mash-ups is that they usually really work. Once or twice. Think Shaun of the Dead. Makers called it a zom-rom-com and it was. Shaun, the main character, is getting over a breakup when zombies take over the Earth and he is forced to fight them and, er, you just have to see it! It's both hilarious and brilliantly done. But it could have gone either way ...

Zombieland is also a zombie horror/comedy mash-up and works really well. Others worked less well. Think the action/romantic comedy mash-up that was the hideous Mr. and Mrs. Smith, starring Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie as a married couple who are also assassins on the run. Yeah, not so hot. There was also Killers with Ashton Kutcher and Katherine Heigl, which most agree was abysmal.

So we'll see. Sometimes fusion works -- think sushi and Thai food -- but some don't. It remains to be seen how this one will go, but my money is on good. After all, it's the first to take this step.

Do you want to see it?
