Lady Gaga Gets a New Career and I'm Glad

lady gagaLady Gaga. Singer. Songwriter. Wearer of weird pointy shoulder things. Now columnist? Where does it end? As of next month, Lady Gaga will be penning an art and fashion column for V magazine. Damn girl, you're going to need a second page for your resume, and you know how potential employers feel about that.

The singer announced this new undertaking the way every other celebrity announces every other thing these days: via Twitter. Her tweet read, "I begin next month as a Fashion+Art Columnist for @VMagazine." Wonder what her nine million Twitter fans thought of the news. I, for one, think it's a great idea.

It's always a little annoying -- and phony -- when celebs get involved in one too many things. (Hello? Gwyneth?) But writing a once-a-month column for an indie magazine about fashion and art seems like the perfect job for Lady Gaga. She'll be talking about one of her favorite things (walk, walk, fashion baby), and it seems like a totally realistic thing to take on.

I also don't think we need to worry about someone else doing the writing for Gaga, as is often the case with "celeb writers." A) She's a writer already. B) It doesn't seem like something she'd allow (but maybe I'm just naive). And C) she's a weirdo! It would be next to impossible to "try to sound like her."

I think my favorite part of this whole thing is the picture that will appear with the column. It won't be some boring headshot or a picture we've already seen of the singer, but an actual drawing. See, the magazine is running an ongoing contest, appropriately called, "Drawn This Way," where fans and artists alike will be able to submit drawings of Gaga, and the winner, chosen by the V and Gaga, will run alongside the column. Kinda cool, huh?

Even though I'm by no means the "world's biggest Gaga fan," I'm kind of excited to check out her new column. Why not, right? Even if it's not my cup of tea, I'm sure it will be anything but boring.

Are you excited for Lady Gaga's new column?
