Britney Spears has been on fire lately. She successfully launched a comeback after her crazy, shaved-head, umbrella-wielding days with her Circus Tour. She got herself a serious boyfriend. And just yesterday, her Femme Fatale album dropped, along with the announcement that she was going on tour with the hunky Enrique Iglesias. Actually, my mistake, she was going on tour with the hunky Enrique Iglesias.
See, Brit Brit and Enrique had plans to co-headline a tour together for sometime now. Note the word co-headline. Doesn't seem like the craziest thing in the world. They're both pop stars, it would be kind of like a one-stop shop for their fans. But, baby Enrique started to feel like he was performing as part of a Britney Spears tour (instead of co-headlining), which, with the way the tour was marketed, I kind of don't blame him. I still think he's being a baby, though.
It seems like Enrique is getting a little caught up in semantics. As Billboard astutely pointed out, the press release for the tour said that the two would "tour together" instead of "co-headline." Apparently, and it makes sense, the latter is the term commonly used when two superstars pair up -- like Billy Joel and Elton John.
Don't be such a micro-manager, Enrique. You're going on tour to make millions of dollars. Britney didn't care about the wording and, after all, she was "touring together," too.
Well, maybe -- here's where I side with you, E. The announcement was made the same day Britney's album dropped. And it was coordinated with her Good Morning America appearance (she squealed to Robin Roberts, "I'm going on tour with Enrique Iglesias in June!"). Hmm. Kind of does seem like it's her tour, with him as a special guest, when you look at it that way. And that's definitely how Enrique sees it, which is why he said peace out to the thing.
His spokesperson told Reuters yesterday:
Unfortunately, Enrique Iglesias and Britney Spears will not be touring together. Despite initial reports based on formal discussions of the possible run, Enrique will continue on his solo tour in support of his new album Euphoria. Enrique has great respect for Britney and is a longtime fan of her work. He is very sorry for the confusion this might have caused to anyone.
Longtime fan of Britney, huh? Then why won't you put your ego aside and just tour with her? I agree with you, it definitely seemed like it was more her thing, but with a little re-wording, the world could have something beautiful!
What do you think of Enrique Iglesias pulling out of the tour?
