We've seen her in an egg. We've seen her with protruding body parts. We've seen her giving birth to some aliens. And now, we see Lady Gaga ... in (gasp!) cowboy boots? Not quite, but Lady Gaga has released a country version of her latest hit "Born This Way."
Yes. Country. Like Carrie Underwood, Kenny Chesney, and Toby Keith. Country. Grab your Wranglers, plunk on that Stetson, y'all, because this new country version is good. I mean, really good.
I'm even going as far as saying I like it better than the original. Yee-haw!
Now, I'm not a huge country music fan. Yes, I lived in Texas for a better part of my formative years and know how to do the two-step, but that doesn't translate into what's playing on my iPhone. You definitely won't find Brad Paisley or Taylor Swift on any of my playlists, but I will admit to a Bo Bice single from his American Idol days and two songs from the Dixie Chicks.
I was hesitant to give the song a chance, worried that my great Gaga had totally flipped out, perhaps spent too long in that egg. I'm so glad I was wrong!
See, the song is cool. It has a good groove, a soulful vibe to it. Now this probably won't get country fans to join Team Gaga, but it may have a few pop music lovers rethinking country for at least 4 minutes and 22 seconds.
As much as I'm loving this, I'm wondering why she did it? It's not like she needs new fans -- she's at the top of her game right now. The original version of "Born This Way" has been holding the number one slot on Billboard's Hot 100 singles chart for six weeks in a row. So, I'm kinda scratching my head here ... jamming to the new song and scratching my head to the beat.
What do you think of Lady Gaga's country version of "Born This Way"?
