After teasing comics fans with photos and short clips of the upcoming Captain America: The First Avenger, a full-length trailer has finally been released.
Did I say "full-length"? I mean "full-bodied." The new trailer is definitely meaty. You could even say there's a lot of heft to it. Personally, I'm glad we've all got our hands on it now and can review it at our leisure. In slow-motion, maybe.
If you haven't seen it, prepare for a visual feast as Chris Evans magically morphs from scrawny weakling into burly patriotic fighting machine. It looks like the CGI wizards have really outdone themselves this time, but hold up—the effects aren't what you think.
While most movies digitally add those outlandish comic book muscles, in this case, Evan's smokin' hot Captain America bod is the real result of a LOT of gym work. What you're seeing at the beginning of the clip is a computer-enhanced skinnier version of Evans.
Go ahead, watch it again. I know I'm already blown away by the quality of this work:
The basic story is that Evans plays a 1940s wannabe soldier named Steve Rogers who's too weak for military service. He volunteers for a top secret research project that turns him into brawny Captain America, a superhero dedicated to defending America’s ideals.
(Which apparently includes finding multiple opportunities to show off his pectorals. God bless America!)
Evans' inevitable bad-guy foe is played by The Matrix's Hugo Weaving, a Nazi technology officer known as the Red Skull (he's the result of a similar super-soldier experiment gone awry, and he looks pretty damned creepy).
Some other familiar faces in Captain America: The First Avenger: Tommy Lee Jones (YAY!) as Colonel Phillips, Stanley Tucci as Abraham Erskine, and Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury.
Captain America hits theaters this summer on July 22. Based on this trailer, I'm pretty sure I'll be there, popcorn in hand.
What do you think of the trailer? Are you looking forward to this new comic-book-turned-movie?

Yes please!!
HO-LY...! I'm impressed by the CGI *and* the real thing! I'll definitely see him. I mean, it.
Why does Sam Jackson have to be in everything? He's the same character all the time.
The trailer was kind of a let down...I thought it would be cooler...it just looks like another war movie with overdone special effects. I have a feeling this is going to go the way of all the Hulk movies....
