Rachel Evan WoodNow what's this about True Blood actress Evan Rachel Wood wearing a wig on her lady parts? Who's ever heard of such a thing? I mean besides all the prostitutes of yesteryear who wore pubic wigs, also called merkins, after shaving to eliminate pubic lice?
But why merkin it up these days? Why on earth would Evan Rachel Wood be donning one of these furry little things? (And how do they stay on? Glue? Double-sided tape?)
Here's a hint as to why: Full-frontal nude scene in the upcoming HBO miniseries set in the 1930s called Mildred Pierce, which also stars Kate Winslet.
Yep, Wood is rockin' a faux vulva hairdo in the name of her craft. It's part of "getting into character," I suppose. She talked about her special wig at a press event:
Let’s just say, I had to wear a wig because it was in the '30s, and everything had to look like it was in the '30s.
It seems Rachel Evan Wood wears a more modern-era bare look down there, and her contemporary vulva just didn't quite suit the pre-waxing era of the movie. Oh, don't act like you don't care. You're still reading, aren't you? Inquiring minds want to know, I understand.
Loved hearing how co-star Kate Winslet helped Wood gutsy up for her first nude scene:
She was like, "You’ve got to do it. Trust me, it’s so brave. Put a merkin on and you’ll be fine."
I think this is going to be my new pep talk for all difficult situations going forward. "Put a merkin on and you'll be fine." It stands to make any awful situation all the warm and fuzzier, doesn't it?
Have you ever heard of a merkin? Bonus points if you've worn one!
