This morning, news broke that Mel Gibson has reached a plea deal in the domestic violence case against him via Oksana Grigorieva, his ex-girlfriend and mom to their child Lucia. In a nutshell Gibson is expected to plead "no contest" to the charge of misdemeanor battery, which is the equivalent of guilty (although not a true admission of guilt), and in return, he will likely be ordered to counseling and put on probation but will serve no jail time.

Wow, looks like the victim Oksana Grigorieva might be getting screwed right and left with this deal. Nothing like getting beat up in your marriage and then watching your abuser get off scot-free because he's famous.

First of all, no jail time. Really? Gibson has only admitted to a "loud" argument and an open-handed slap across Oksana's face to "calm her," but we all heard all the gnarly, racist, and abusive phone calls. And we've also seen how colorful he can get when he's been drinking. Grigorieva also alleged that Gibson punched her in the face and knocked out her teeth during an argument in January 2010. But no jail time, huh? Well, that must feel great for the victim of celebrity abuse. But then again, we all know how much we bow to celebrity meltdowns around here.

Grigorieva also got the news about the plea deal from the media when word of the agreement was "leaked" to the press. According to RadarOnline.com, the Los Angeles District Attorney's Office is:

... furious, because the victim (Grigorieva) in the case was supposed to be notified today about the disposition and outcome of the case. For Oksana to have to find out through the media what was going to happen is absolutely unprofessional and makes no sense at all.

Plus, there's that little matter of an extortion charge left hanging over Grigorieva's head. The prosecutors have the evidence, filed by Gibson, for that case in hand and are weighing whether or not Oksana will face criminal extortion charges in connection with the release of the crazy Mel Gibson rant tapes. Mel Gibson says she tried to swindle $15 million from him in exchange for keeping the recordings under wraps.

Gibson is expected to be formally charged in the domestic case this week and will appear in person in court on Friday to enter the plea. Sorry, Oksana, just not seeing the ray of sunshine gleaming in this one ...

Do you think Mel Gibson is getting off too easy in this domestic violence case?
