On Valentine's Day, Paula Abdul made a phone call to 911 that went a little something like this: "Straight up now tell me ... are you gonna let me out of this car?!" All joking aside, TMZ obtained the audio of the call, and it sounds like Paula is really upset. Like she's being held hostage by a scary guy.
In the call, a sobbing Paula tells the 911 responder:
I wanna go, and he won't let me. Are you gonna drop me off 'cause I have emergency on the phone ... He's dropping me off.
Cops followed up with Paula at her home later in the evening, and she said she was fine. She also decided against filing a police report. Later, her rep told TMZ:
Arguments with loved ones are often times heated. After the call was made everything was worked out.
But ... what really happened?
It just seems sort of bizarre that she was SO hysterical one moment, and even felt so threatened that she dialed 911, then stayed on the call until the guy dropped her off. I could see getting really riled up during an argument and perhaps threatening to call 911 if it was just verbal sparring. But you'd think it would take something actually physical ... force ... to warrant a real, several-minute-long phone call. It makes me kind of nervous, you know?
Then again -- not to dismiss the whole thing altogether, but we are talking about Paula Abdul here. She is one of the Queen Crazies, right? Plus, it may bear mentioning that this occurred right after Paula learned that her CBS show, Live to Dance, was canceled. She was "devastated" and spent the weekend "rehashing CBS's devastating decision and wondering what she would do next," according to RadarOnline.
It's possible that an emotional hit like that could have factored into what went down on Valentine's Day. People can do all sorts of crazy things when they're upset about their jobs. Just look at the JetBlue flight attendant!
Sooo ... maybe that's what went down here. I really hope so!
The good news for Paula is that former co-host Simon Cowell may be considering her as a judge for his upcoming U.S. version of X Factor. She's a little nervous that there was some bad blood between them when she left Idol because she demanded more money than they could cough up. But, Simon recently cited her on his wish list of potential judges. Maybe he knows X Factor could benefit from a little Paula crazy.
Otherwise, I'm not really sure what the future has in store for the "Forever Your Girl." She could always put out another pop album? Ehhhh ... I won't hold my breath for that one.
What do you think really happened with Paula and her boyfriend in that car?
