Christina Aguilera Finally Arrested: We All Hoped It Wasn't Coming

Unhappy news for Christina Aguilera: It seems that the embarrassing rumors plaguing her lately have been validated, because early this morning she was booked for public intoxication.

Aguilera was a passenger in a car driven by her boyfriend Matthew Rutler when they were stopped around 2:45 a.m. in West Hollywood. Rutler was arrested for suspicion of DUI, with bail set at $30,000. As for Aguilera, deputies determined that she was extremely intoxicated and unable to look after her own welfare. Since, according to the report, "no one was available to ensure her safety," she was taken into custody.

She wasn't involved in any criminal activity, and will be released "when she can safely care for herself," the sheriff's department said in a press release.

This is the latest in a series of drinking-related stories associated with the singer. It started with reports that she'd passed out in actor Jeremy Renner's bed at a party, had an epic New Year's Eve fight with her mother, and most recently, that she'd had sex in a bathroom at a family gathering.

Of course, there was also her botched rendition of “The Star Spangled Banner” at the Super Bowl, and a near spill at the Grammy Awards.

I didn't think her singing voice could hold up if she was drinking as heavily as people were saying, and I suppose one arrest doesn't mean everything we've heard is true. It sure doesn't sound good, though. It's sad, not only that she was so drunk she couldn't take care of herself—but that she had no one to come get her. That speaks volumes of a woman who's pushing people away as she spirals downwards.

Here's hoping this was the rock bottom she needed to start making some big changes.

Were you surprised to hear about Christina's arrest?
