As we near Oscars 2011 time and anticipate seeing who is deemed the best of the best, it's always fun to see who ... stunk. That's what the Golden Raspberry Awards are all about. They were announced last night, and not so surprisingly, it was The Last Airbender that led the way with a whole bushel of Razzie Awards.
It took the following categories: Worst Picture, Worst Eye-Gouging Mis-Use of 3-D, Worst Director, and Worst Screenplay. To top it all off, Jackson Rathbone took home the Razzy for Worst Supporting Actor for his role in that flick, and (Twihards, brace yourself) for his role in Eclipse.
Of The Last Airbender, Razzies creator John Wilson said:
[The Last Airbender] is only an hour-and-a-half long, but it feels like a month. The dialogue was so unintelligible, it’s like a foreign film without subtitles.
Can't say I disagree, but ouch! Here's who else got dissed:
Ashton Kutcher was deemed Worst Actor for Killers and Valentine's Day. The boy is nice to look at, but his acting abilities are best used for things like Punk'd and not the big screen. So, well-deserved I say.
Jesscia Alba took Worst Supporting Actress for pretty much everything she did the past year -- The Killer Inside Me, Little Fockers, Machete, and Valentine's Day. At least she has her baby to forward to soon.
The ladies from Sex and The City 2 got slammed as well. The whole bunch -- Sarah Jessica Parker, Kim Cattrall, Kristen Davis and Cynthia Nixon -- collectively took Worst Actress. Which means they each only got one-fourth of a diss? They also got the Razzy for Worst Screen Couple/Ensemble. Fine, but I liked it anyway.
So, congratulations, condolences to the winners. Since none of them is going to take an Oscar tonight, at least they can say they won something.
Do you think the Razzies hit or missed the mark this year? Any others you would add to the list?
