The countdown to the Oscars is on, and with every new detail released, we get a little more excited. Sure the SAG Awards, the Golden Globes, and the Grammys are fun, but it's the Oscars that are THE night in Hollywood, and for the rest of us fans watching from living rooms around America.
So what do the 83rd Academy Awards have in store? The show, if you don't have it plastered in red ink on your calendar, is this Sunday, February 27, on ABC. The red carpet event begins at 7 p.m. Eastern Time, and the main event at 8 p.m. While the nominees have been known for awhile, it's news of the presenters that keeps trickling in and fueling our excitement.
The latest announced to present include:
Matthew McConaughey Check out the hot eye candy, Matty will be in the house.
Helen Mirren The always lovely star of The Queen will present an award after winning one of her own last year.
Javier Bardem Mr. Penelope Cruz could give MConaughey a run for the hot money. Last year he won an Oscar for his role in No Country for Old Men and he's nominated this year for Biutiful.
Other presenters on board include: Jude Law, Reese Witherspoon, Oprah Winfrey, Scarlett Johansson, and Russell Brand. Seriously, who needs awards with a lineup like that?
Anne Hathaway and James Franco will act as co-hosts and are working up routines to honor old-time flicks Grease and Evita. Evita makes me a little nervous, especially based on this preview from The Hollywood Reporter, but we'll hope it's better than that. It's pretty hard to go wrong with Grease.
I hope they rock it. Hathaway recently told the Associated Press that preparing to host the Oscars is like preparing for a boxing match.
"I feel like I have a big fight coming up and everyone's giving me the thumbs-up and the 'you'll-rock-it' fist pump. I have unbelievable support," she said.
Let's hope they all give us something to fist-pump about come Sunday evening.
Are you getting excited to watch the 2011 Oscars? Which presenters are you most excited to see?
