Britney Spears 'Hold It Against Me': She's No Lady Gaga (VIDEO)

I wasn't exactly perched on the couch last night, staring at MTV for Britney Spears' new video and single "Hold It Against Me." (Yes, MTV actually still plays videos -- who knew?!) But I was a Brit fan back in the day. Still am. Her "In the Zone" and "Baby, One More Time" are on my workout playlist.

Then she went all bonkeroo on us (remember shaved-head Britney?). But I'm cheering for her success with this comeback (go, Britney, go!). So I checked out the video this morning, watched it a few times ... and thought, "Meh, Gaga is better."

Not that it isn't a good video -- it's risky, it's different, it's over the top, it's cool. It is chock-full of random video fun. I like Britney doing the ninja-fight scene with what seems to be herself. But what's with all of the products? We have close-ups of Sony, the Plenty of Fish dating site, Brit's own perfume, and scads of others.

I actually really like the video. I just don't like the song. It's one of those songs that doesn't know what it wants to be -- it's kind of dance-y, but then slows down in the middle. Say you're out at a club -- okay, who am I kidding, you're in your house with your daughter having the fifth dance party of the day -- and it slows down. That just sucks. What do you do for that slow part? The "stand-and-sway" move? An odd twirl that just makes me dizzy?

I know there will be hard-core Brit fans who disagree, but in terms of new dance hits, Lady Gaga's "Born This Way" just hits a better beat.

With this obvious Britney-Gaga battle brewing, I canNOT wait to see Lady Gaga's video. She's got to step it up, but after watching her on the Grammys, with her egg arrival and all, I don't think that will be a problem.

i could not watch the whole thing, it got really bad when the fighting scene started. whats with all the product placement?? Sony, plenty of fish and something else. do we really need more product placment? i was not a Britney fan when she first came out (i was 16) but now i am, im glad she made her comeback but now she has nothing on gaga. she doesn't write her own music, she does not have the creative mind to shock and awe us every time she comes out with a new outfit or video. and she was way way way way way too photo shopped, even in her own video!! we all know britney spears is not that super flawless, we've seen the pictures.

I like this song better than Born This Way, but I can't wait for the Gaga video. I thought this video was "Meh". It's was okay, not great. She's had better for sure. I've over her not dancing much. If she isn't going to sing or write, then she needs to at least dance really really well like she used to. I was a 15 year old Teeny bopper when Britney came out so I was a HUGE fan. I still am a fan, I just need her to get it all together.

I really like the video. I like HIAM better than Born This Way but I don't LOVE LOVE either song. The video was really creative and I loved the small touches like that creepy joker smile in the paint scene. The only product placement that really bothered me was the PlentyofFish because it was SO random to the rest of the video...She's had product placement before in Me Against the Music (Mazda and Sbarro) and Do Somethin'(Panasonic), and 3 (Circus Fantasy Perfume) so it didn't really surprise me to see Sony/Radiance. I just wish the editing didn't cut the final dance sequence in so many pieces. I loved the overall message of Britney destroying her old videos/her past self and fighting herself to rise up again after being drained/fighting. Born This Way has a great message and Gaga's voice is great, don't get me wrong, but the "better beat" of her song is just a sped up beat of Express yourself. I find it hard to give her credit for a dance beat that is just not that original, even if it is a coincidence.

The song is okay, but the video isn't that great. Way too many product placements and weak choreography. Britney hasn't put anything really good out since Blackout. As for the Lady Gaga comparisons, I prefer Born This Way too (which isn't that great itself).

i like the video. the song is ok. lady gaga is a poser. she copies madonna's style and songs from the 80's. i don't understand why she's so famous.

I think everyone seems to be forgetting that moment in Gaga's video for Telephone where the female guard logs into Plenty of Fish while Gaga leaves prison. You're right, she is no lady gaga. Britney Spears is a sweet and humble girl despite her massive fame and doesn't act like she's the second coming of Jesus. She's been mega famous most of her life and lady gaga's been famous for 2 or 3 years and has the most revolting ego that I've ever seen in a popstar. She says it's confidence but usually when people are that arrogant it's insecurity.

I’m not immune orchestrated hype blitz. Between the Anderson Cooper interview, Perez Hilton’s incessant cheerleading and her recent proclamation in Vogue that she’s ‘one of the greatest songwriters’, I was decidedly primed to listen to Lady Gaga’s latest single ‘Born This Way’ with an open mind. After all I’m only human, maybe I’ve been misguided in thinking that the mega shnozzed, ivory tickler is merely a marginally talented Madonna clone, wearing wacky frocks made of cold cuts. Fortunately I don’t have anything to beat myself up about, as ‘Born This Way’ is exactly what I expected; a‘Material Girl’ retread. . Released today – because she ‘couldn’t wait’ – Gaga’s latest ‘masterpiece’ sounds like an amateur hour!It’s so blatant a rip-off, that those ‘little monsters’ of hers, were too young to have heard the original. Seriously, if I was Madonna I’d demand royalties. The beat is totally pilfered, and when she shrieks, ‘Born this waaaaayyyy’ it’s identical to ‘lift you to your higher grounnndd’. ‘Born This Way’ is simply a toothless attempt at rallying her gay fanbase to her petticoat. In the end, I’m sure this latest release will be championed by her troop of parrot-brained devotees as a veritable anthem of individualism and self-expression. I AM always right about everything…I can’t help it –but Madonna was "born this way" FIRST!

Britney is way better. She is herown specific creation of who she has always wanted to be. She knows exactly what she wants to portray & create. She is an artist. Lady Gaga isnt an artist, she is an annoying shock-thriller and does nothing but make people confused and laugh at her. Lady Gaga goes OUT OF HER way to be "artistic".
