After almost a decade in Hollywood, Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson has announced his return to his pro-wrestling roots. On Monday night's episode of WWE Raw, the 38-year-old wrestling champion and star of The Scorpion King announced, "The most electrifying man of all of entertainment is hosting the most electrifying event of all of entertainment!"
Translation: He's going to host WrestleMania XXVII on April 3 in Atlanta.
Once a well-known wrestler (with his own signature catchphrase, "If you smell what the Rock is cooking!"), Johnson left the sport in 2004 for a film career. Since then, the actor has starred in a number of movies, including The Mummy Returns, Race to Witch Mountain, Tooth Fairy, and Walking Tall.
While it isn't clear whether the Rock will simply host WrestleMania or actually compete in the event, on Raw Monday, he said that he was "never, ever" leaving the WWE again: "You helped me accomplish my dreams because you never left my side. Thank you, I love you!"
I'm not much of a wrestling fan, but I always get a kick out of Johnson's movie appearances (he was hilarious in Be Cool). Hopefully his return to the WWE ring doesn't mean we'll miss out on his random film cameos.
