Jennifer HudsonCrazy talented singing sensation Jennifer Hudson opened up on The Oprah Winfrey Show yesterday about her incredible weight loss and how she copes and continues to move forward after the 2008 murders of her mother, brother, and 7-year-old nephew. She also performed her brand new single, and we have the video.
Come take a look at Ms. Hudson's inspiring story and see what you missed.
American Idol and Dreamgirls star Hudson, looking svelte and lovely as ever, revealed to Oprah that she lost 80 pounds on Weight Watchers, but that being a size 4, 2, or 0 is "not for me." She's now a size 6, down from a size 16, and boy, does she look fantastic.
It's like a brand new me. Sometimes I don't even recognize myself.
This dramatic weight loss isn't the only challenge that Jennifer has had to overcome. It's been two and a half years now since Jennifer's mother Darnell, brother Jason, and nephew Julian King were murdered in Chicago. Her mother and brother were found shot in the family's home, and young Julian was found days later in a vehicle, also shot to death. The estranged husband of Jennifer's sister, Julia, is charged with first-degree murder for the killings. Such a horrific tragedy, and yet Jennifer carried on publicly with incredible grace and strength.
Hudson told Oprah that she made it through the tragedy with the support of her fiance, wrestler David Otunga, their baby David Jr., God, and her family, including her mother and brother.
I keep holding on to things that they taught us.
Like right now my mama'd be fussing at me, "Why are you always crying? Stop crying." My brother's saying to me, "Jenny, knock it off. You gotta keep going."
The only thing I can do to honor their memory is to make them proud.
