3 Reasons Rihanna Should Let Chris Brown Near Her

rihannaOh, how I hate Chris Brown. He’s the scum of the earth. Any man who could beat a woman the way he did Rihanna deserves every punishment dealt and then some. He was lucky when he got off so easily, and he’s about to get even luckier. Rihanna is petitioning the courts to relax the restraining order against him.

As loathsome as he is, Rihanna is doing the right thing here. I know, I know, but there are lots of reasons why relaxing (or even lifting) the restraining order is a good idea.

It’s been more than a year since the incident occurred. In entertainment years that’s, what, 18 years? Something like that. I don’t think I could ever say that Chris has paid his dues, but he’s surely suffered. His career is pretty much in the toilet (seriously, what have you seen him do lately that’s worth anything?). That alone is huge punishment, considering. But there are other reasons, too.

  1. He has little hope of resurrecting his career as long as the order stands. As Rihanna herself said, the order could create a “problem with awards shows." Not that Chris is going to win anything, but those are major networking events. His inability to attend any show that Rihanna also attends puts a major crimp in his networking ability.

  2. He’s completed his court-ordered punishments. He did the anger management, the probation, everything. At some point, we have to realize that his crime wasn’t as severe as, say, Michael Vick’s, and allow him to re-enter society with the hope that he’s really changed.

  3. He’s not even with Rihanna anymore. At this point, maintaining a restraining order against him is pure vengeance. She knows it’s hurting his career, his personal life. She also knows that she’s not in any danger from him. If he chooses to hurt another woman, that’s one thing. But he’s not going to hurt her, which makes the restraining order completely moot. The only reason to keep it in place would be to exact some sort of revenge, creating a constant reminder of what he did and the line he walks.

I’m not saying that Chris should be forgiven for what he did, or even that anyone should forget about it. On the contrary -- I’d be perfectly happy if he had to have a “wifebeater” microchip implanted that would implode his head if he ever so much as touched another woman in violence. But for now, it just makes sense to relax the restraining order.

Do you think Chris Brown's restraining order should be lifted?
