Tracy Morgan, Sarah Palin, and Live Television = Bad Combo

Linda Sharps

I guess I don't think of Tracy Morgan as being the poster boy for level-headed political commentary, but even I was surprised to hear that he'd announced on live television that Sarah Palin plays a starring role in his jerkoff fantasies.

(I mean, really? Is it the glasses? The updo?)

Last night Morgan sent the jaws of sports fans dropping straight to the floor during his appearance last night on Inside the NBA, when Kenny Smith asked Morgan to settle an argument between him and co-host Charles Barkley—"Tina Fey or Sarah Palin?"

As Morgan seemed to be considering the question, Barkley offered up the opinion that, "Sarah Palin, she's a good-looking woman, isn't she?"

I'm not really sure where they thought this conversation was going to go, but it's likely no one expected Morgan's on-air response:

"Let me tell you about Sarah Palin. She's good masturbation material."

If you watch the video, you can almost hear the sound of an invisible needle dragging across a record as Smith and Barkley laugh nervously and Ernie Johnson tries to cut off the interview with a hearty "We want to thank Tracy Morgan for stopping by!"

Minutes later, TNT shot off an apology from Turner spokesman Jeff Pomeroy, saying,

"It's unfortunate Mr. Morgan showed a lack of judgment on our air with his inappropriate comments. We apologize for any embarrassment or offense it may have caused."

Here's a clip of Morgan's comments, should you wish to enjoy the sight of three sports show hosts simultaneously wishing for death:

Personally, I think the real problem with this joke is that it's lame—if you're going to go for offensive, hell, at least be funny about it.

What do you think about Tracy Morgan's comments? Some people are saying he should be fired from 30 Rock for this, do you agree?
