Congratulations Lady Gaga! It's been a year since fans everywhere heard "Telephone" for the first time and fell even more in love with your one-of-a-kind style. Across the country, thousands are buzzing on Twitter about the anniversary of one of your greatest songs to date.
As for the men from the 82nd Airborne Division stationed in Southwest Afghanistan, "Telephone" may have changed their lives forever. Teaming up to make a lip sync video to the track, the men had a little fun and gained instant YouTube fame in early 2010.
What better way to celebrate this momentous occasion than with a few men in uniform?
It's impossible not to laugh at the brain-child of Aaron Melcher, a maintenance sergeant who starts off the video shaking his booty with fellow enlistee Justin Baker. He told CBS that he got the idea for the remake from his wife, who showed him the Gaga video before he deployed.
The accessories Gaga skipped in her version that make this all the better: The camouflage uniform, telephone cardboard cutouts, dusty boots, and sweat-stained pits. I don't know about you, but the uniform is MUCH more of a turn-on for me than a pair of red stilettos!
It warms my heart, really. When I showed my boyfriend the video after he got back from his second tour in Afghanistan in November -- he fell over laughing. He told me that doing things like this is truly what gets guys through a rough deployment. With a lack of available entertainment after long days in hundred-degree heat, carrying more than a hundred pounds of gear, it's bonding like this that makes all the difference. And for these guys, knowing how difficult it is to be waiting for phone calls and emails back in the U.S., they wanted to give their friends and family some comedic relief. They wanted to show them how important it was to keep smiling through the hard times, and that everything was gonna be just fine. And man, I'm sure they (and millions of others) really appreciated it.
Happy anniversary Gaga! What do you think of the "Telephone" remake?
