There's something about Kim Richards from the Real Housewives of Beverly Hills that is just so ... sad. And not like in an underdog way, but in a way that makes me want to give her a hug and a warm plate of mashed potatoes with gravy. Kim's been her younger sister's, Kyle Richards, lackey all season and it was obvious that Kyle was getting fed up with it.
The tension came to a head on last night's season finale when Kim and Kyle got in a frenzied, wine-propelled fight in the limo after Taylor Armstrong's birthday party. Kyle accused Kim of being an alcoholic and then, well, the Shiraz hit the fan.
If you've watched every episode and every after-show like I have, you know that Kim enjoys her white wine. It's my opinion that she's just a lightweight who gets pretty darn tipsy after two glasses, but her family sees it as a problem.
At the end of the finale, a banner scrolled across the screen letting us know that Kim was checked into rehab, checked herself out a week later, and that sadly, Kim and Kyle have not spoken since the fight.
What the hell is going on?
Is Kim Richards an alcoholic? From what Bravo has chosen for me to see, I'd say no. But really, what do I know? Nothing. Maybe Kim is swigging vodka from the bottle when no one is looking. I don't think that's the case, but my point is that we the viewers have no clue.
I've been a Kyle-fan since day one, but I'm starting to see her differently now. If she had paused for a second in the limo, taken a look around to see a cameraman, mic boom, and bright light, she might have chosen to keep her mouth shut. But she didn't, and instead decided to react to Kim's sloshy behavior and out her as an alcoholic to millions. Not the high road there, Kyle. But then again, why is expectation always placed on Kyle to do the right thing when Kim is the one acting-a-fool? Kyle has a breaking point just like the rest of us. Oh gee, sisters! Can't live with them, can't live with them.
I can't wait for the reunion show next week. Not only because I have an undying love for Andy Cohen, but I've just got to know where Kim and Kyle stand. I really hope they're talking and have worked things out. And I really hope Kim is able to clearly articulate her feelings and make the sense we all want her to.
And if that doesn't work, let's throw the third sister, Kathy Hilton, into the mix to really stir the pot. Maybe Kim and Kyle's nieces, Paris and Nicky, could come too. Now that's a reunion!
