Alex Lambert, American Idol Season 9 finalist, is homeless. Wait, just kidding. No, he’s not. The 20-year-old singer/songwriter and star of If I Can Dream, a post-Idol web series, has taken us for a ride on an emotion roller coaster, and I for one am impressed.
Alex, not to be confused with guy-liner aficionado Adam Lambert, tweeted about living on the streets of L.A, catching and eating rats for dinner, and turning tricks just to be able to pay for his cell phone bill so he can still tweet. OK, I made that last part up. But stay with me. Here’s what Alex tweeted:
Ever since 'If I Can Dream' ended I’ve been kinda homeless! Sleepin’ on the street and behind buildings. I have a choice to stay and pursue my career or go back to Texas and not do music! I’m usually a strong person, but I can’t take it anymore.
Not so fast, Alex. I'm on to you.
A rep from Lambert’s record company, XIX Entertainment, stated today that, no Alex is not homeless, and is in fact working on new music. Hmm. Something smells fishy here, and I don’t think it’s Alex’s dumpster-diving BO. Here’s what I think went down: Alex Lambert is a PR wizard.
This may be giving this guy with a questionable hair-cut too much credit, but I’m willing to give him the benefit of the doubt. I think Alex, sipping on a Lone-Star beer, decided he needed some attention. But how? He’s just a loser from A.I.Then BOOM. It hits him like a Simon Cowell compliment.
Knowing that America loves a comeback, Lambert contacts his rep at his record company (first clue he’s not homeless: he has a rep at a record company) and hatches a genius PR plan -- Alex will tweet he’s homeless just as American Idol Season 10 searches are hot, he’ll garner public sympathy, rep will deny homelessness thereby making two stories out of one. Alex Lambert is now back on your radar.
Hats off to you, Mr. Lambert. I think a slow-clap is in order here.
So, do you think Alex a PR wizard or a guy down on his luck?
