Jim Carrey Spoofs 'Black Swan' and It's...Excruciating
Do you remember when Jim Carrey used to be funny? I mean, he used to be really, really funny, didn't he?
I can't tell if he's the one who's changed or if I'm just old and curmudgeonly now, but every time I see him doing his patented Jim Carrey Shtick, it makes me cringe. I saw him on David Letterman a few weeks ago, and Carrey had this painfully lame bit where he kept referencing his entourage of hookers and the camera would flash backstage to a trio of elderly women who were hooking a rug.
GET IT? THEY WERE HOOKING A RUG WHICH MAKES THEM HOOKERS NOT PROSTITUTES HA HA HA ugggggh.
Anyway, Carey's performance on Saturday Night Live last weekend was like two no-longer-funny-tastes that just don't taste funny together, particularly during his Black Swan skit.
In the searingly clever (not) parody of Darren Aronofsky's thriller, Carrey took on Mila Kunis' character, Lily, the rival to Natalie Portman's Nina. He wore a bun, black leotard, buffalo wings tattooed on his back, and tutu (ha ha ha A MAN IN A TUTU HAAA uggggh), and pranced around the stage contorting his face into various rubbery positions.
At the end, Carrey addressed the audience and delivered the flaccid line, "Once you go black swan, you never go back ... swan," before the sketch faded to an image of Carrey in full Swan Lake makeup.
It all left me with one burning question—Dumb and Dumber really was funny, wasn't it? I could swear it was funny.
If you missed it, here's a video of the sketch:
This video can not be viewed on The Stir Mobile.
I mean, props to the guy for looking good at 48, like he dutifully does his yoga or whatever, but yeesh.
What did you think of the skit?

It's not just you, and it's not just Jim Carrey. Saturday Night Live hasn't been funny in YEARS. I haven't the foggiest idea why it's still on TV. It should have been cancelled about a decade ago.

I agree with colins_mom.

I still watch SNL (tivo'd, so I can be-boop past the lame bits) because a few of the cast members are almost always hilarious, no matter how dumb the skit may be (Kristen Wiig and Bill Hader, specifically).
The whole time I was watching the Black Swan skit, I kept waiting for it to get funny. It never did.

On another note, I could see how he might be going through a mid-life thing right now. Have you ever read his tweets?

I thought it was funny. I've always loved Jim Carey. He is an acquired taste for comedic performances, but I've always liked him.

Do you remember when SNL used to be funny???? Da bears....
So whoever they get on there now will not be funny either since they do not write their own stuff...they have SNL writers. Any questions? SNL sucks...and so does anybody on there.
Jim Carey used to be funnier quite some time ago too. How about some new blood???
