Just days after John Mellencamp announced his split from wife Elaine, he was photographed in New York with Meg Ryan, buying groceries together all snuggle-bunny-like. They were also photographed walking arm-in-arm in NYC this past October, and Meg's been spotted backstage enjoying John's company at a couple of his recent tour dates.
Hmmmm. Little ditty, 'bout John and Ryan ... being a couple of homewreckers?
Maybe they're just friends? After all, one report claims Ryan is voicing a character in a new musical adaptation of Stephen King story Ghost Brothers, which Mellencamp has written the songs for.
Except ... well, I don't know about you, but I don't normally go strolling around holding hands with my married male friends before we stop at the store for snacks.
Who knows how long Mellencamp's marriage has really been on the outs, but jeez, they haven't even filed for divorce yet. For the sake of his (still current) wife, couldn't he at least have kept the Ryan relationship on the DL?
Ryan herself doesn't have such a great track record, romantically speaking, after her 10-year marriage to Dennis Quaid ended in 2001 when she reportedly cheated on him with Russell Crowe. (She claimed Quaid had been cheating on her for years, and that Crowe didn't break up their marriage.) Mellencamp also has had his share of past drama—he has five children from his three marriages to date.
Only the people involved in this situation can really know what's going on, but from an outsider's point of view, the whole John-maybe-dumps-Elaine-maybe-for-Meg thing looks messy as hell. For shame, Mr. Mellencamp. At least give it, like, a MONTH before you're canoodling in public with another woman.
What do you think about this new couple?
