Alanis Morissette and her husband just had a baby on Christmas day, which is awesome unless you're the kid, who is totally getting birthday presents wrapped in holiday paper forever.
The pregnancy was reportedly a surprise, albeit a happy one. According to Alanis, "I actually thought I wasn't. I had just sort of said in passing [to my doctor] that I was a little late … And he said, 'Let's take a quick look.' "
Surprise! Aw, Alanis. 'You Oughta Know' how birth control works, girlfriend.
Most of us are quite familiar with Alanis Morisette, at least the entirety of her Jagged Little Pill album which we may have made some ill-advised attempts to sing karaoke to, but who's her man? Is his name really Souleye, and if so, just how much of a douchebag is he?
It turns out Souleye, 30, has a real name: Mario Treadway. He and Alanis, 36, tied the knot in a small ceremony at their Los Angeles home back in May.
Souleye is a rapper known for his freestyling abilities. Here's the MC doing his thing in a video:
He's also an activist who frequently speaks out about universal healthcare and the environment. Oh, and according to Alanis, they met at a meditation ceremony at her house. She said, "He walked in, and I thought, 'Wow, he's incredibly sexy.' But I had no idea what was to become of our little connection."
First comes meditation ceremony and then comes marriage, then comes a surprise pregnancy and a baby carriage!
So, is "Souleye," in fact, a douchebag, what with the woo-woo name and all? Oh, let's give him the benefit of the doubt and say no. However, I will gently point out that this, from his website, does not help his case: "With over 500 shows under his belt, he continues to hone his unparalleled ability to freestyle and slay his sweaty and hungry audiences, who look to him for guidance, inspiration and profound entertainment. SOULEYE was clearly born to write rhymes and perform."
SWEATY AND HUNGRY. PROFOUND ENTERTAINMENT. Ahem. Sounds like "SOULEYE was clearly born" to rip giant bong hits, dude.
Anyway, congratulations to the happy couple and their baby boy Ever Imre Morissette-Treadway, whose name I have no idea how to pronounce. Mazel tov! Merry Christmas! Happy birthday!
