Could this be the new Buffy? This news is especially designed to make my stepson Eli go cuckoo. He and I have been loving Heather Morris on Glee this season. She’s really been allowed to shine, throwing out hilarious so-dumb-she‘s-brilliant one-liners one moment, then lighting up the screen with her amazing dance skills the next.
He’s also spent the past few months working his way through the first few seasons of Buffy: The Vampire Slayer on DVD. Yep, he’s been bitten by the Joss Whedon bug.
So an unholy marriage between Glee and Buffy would pretty much make his year … and mine, and I’ll bet yours, too. (That’s either a sign that this is a big deal or a sad commentary on my life. Or both!)
So what’s the big rumor?
Warner Brothers has just bought the rights to restart the Buffy franchise with a new movie about the karate-chopping vamp-blasting cheerleader. Fans aren’t sure this is a good thing, but the latest casting rumor (and I have to be clear, it’s just a rumor at this point) is that Heather Morris is the number-one choice to play Buffy in the new movie.
The producers cite Morris’ comic timing, dance background, and gymnastic skills as making her the perfect Buffy.
In the movie, which is slated for 2012, Buffy is out of college and heading for her quarter-life crisis, living the uncertain life of a 20-something. Heather Morris is a fresh-faced 23-year-old -- the perfect age.
I’m so excited I could sing an autotuned solo, perform a rewarmed Bob Fosse choreography, and get in a fight with Sue Sylvester!
Are you as excited as I am? Do you think this will really happen?
