Mariah Carey's Christmas Special aired last night, and while I didn't catch it at the time, videos of the show at the Orpheum Theater in LA have flooded the Internet today. One particular clip presented the very pregnant diva performing "O Come All Ye Faithful" with her operatically trained mom, Patricia Carey.
Who knew that Mariah's Mama had pipes?
Turns out that the elder Carey is a vocal coach. The mother-daughter team also recorded the holiday perennial a deux for Mariah's Christmas album, Merry Christmas II You. ("Merry Christmas II/To You." Get it? Good.)
Mariah clearly loved the experience:
Many people know that my mother is a trained opera singer, so I guess it was only a matter of time before we both got onto a record together. It was a lovely experience being in the studio together, and I'm very happy that I have this documented for the rest of my life.
Awwww. And yeah. The mom was lovely ... had a beautiful voice.
But for the love of God, can someone please put a muzzle on that daughter of hers? We know that you have a five-octave range, Mariah. But do we have to hear it every single freaking time?
And the hands gyrating ... the face writhing in pain ... the casting the eyes up to the heavens. Why must you subject us -- and frankly, yourself -- to this? Honestly, I was terrified that you were going to go into labor. I was terrified that I was going to go into labor. And I'm not even pregnant!
Mariah, listen to me. You have a perfectly wonderful, God-given voice. Stop mucking it up. Seriously. You're really freaking me out. And I'm sure I'm not the only one.
Take a peek:
What to you think? Should Mariah take it down about 100 notches?
