George Clooney is not only drop-dead handsome, he's generous to boot. While dining at Chi Dynasty in Studio City, California this weekend, the Hollywood hunk left a hefty $100 tip on a check that totalled only $80.
For mathematically challenged readers, that's a 125% tip.
And Mr. Clooney isn't the only altruistic celeb. Johnny Depp, Charlie Sheen, Julia Roberts, Paris Hilton, and Drew Barrymore are just a few of the stars who are notoriously happy to share the wealth.
So which ones are rumored to keep their wallet clamped tight?
Gwyneth Paltrow is thought to be unable to calculate the 15 or 20% needed to leave a proper tip. Or maybe she's just really, really cheap.
Ditto Madonna, who has been known to leave waiters nothing. Zippo.
Mariah Carey once brought a large crowd to a restaurant after closing time, partied hearty for several hours, and stiffed the wait staff at the end.
When Rachael Ray filmed her $40 a Day show, those 40 buckeroos were initially for food only. She never ever tipped. After a barrage of viewer complaints, the Food Network star began to factor gratuities into her daily total.
Mick Jagger once allotted 10 bucks for a $90 meal at a pizza joint in Washington, DC.
A server at a swanky West Hollywood eatery claims that Kirsten Dunst left her nothing at all. (And she claimed that Kirsten smelled. I think the waitress added that charming extra nugget of info because she was really, really pissed. Just sayin'.)
Usher is rumored to have once given his autograph as a gratuity. Ouch.
Britney Spears upset the staff at the Peninsula Hotel in LA with incessant demands coupled with less than stellar tips.
Jeremy Piven has been banned from Nobu Matsuhisa’s restaurants after he left a DVD of the first season of Entourage as a tip to the wait staff in the Aspen offshoot.
Okay. To be honest, I doubt that half of these are true. (Although I confess that I can fully believe the Piven story, because, well .... can't you just see it?)
But then again, I'm sure that some of them are.
Do you believe that any of these celebrities are really bad tippers?
