The results are in. That red bandanna guy with the "Bed Intruder" interview-turned-auto-tuned song, aka Antoine Dodson, is officially the most-watched, non-major label video on YouTube for 2010.
The website that makes it way too easy to procrastinate just released their most popular videos of 2010, and our boy Antoine comes out #1 in front of some serious competitors.
I'll admit that I find this video to be entertaining, and even downloaded the song on iTunes, but it seems like there were several other videos that had my friends and me talking much more.
I know that I spent hours laughing over that Double Rainbow video. And hours drooling over the Old Spice Guy. And that OK Go video is just phenomenal -- serious physics action going on there. So how the heck did "Bed Intruder" earn the #1 spot?
I think it's because it's a hero story. As catchy as the song is, it doesn't hide the fact that this was a real-life interview about a serious, real-life situation. Antoine gave an angry TV interview about how his sister was almost raped, and the Gregory Brothers, who iconically put news stories to auto-tune, picked it up. And instead of getting pissed about it, Antoine went with it and used it as a platform against sexual offenders. Okay, and Halloween costumes, t-shirts, and ringtones -- but don't act like you wouldn't cash in on that either. That, my friends, is what makes this video so awesome.
