Was Gwyneth Paltrow's 'Glee' Performance Worthy of Reprisal?

Kim Conte

gwyneth paltrowGwyneth Paltrow was apparently such a hit last month on Glee that she's returning to McKinley High as quirky substitute teacher Holly Holiday for a second episode.

She made the announcement of her upcoming role reprisal this weekend at a press junket for her latest movie, Country Strong, and Glee fans generally have reacted well to the news -- a surprising development given the somewhat lukewarm reaction they had to her performance initially.

Gwyneth can sing -- I think we all can agree on that. But her rendition of Cee-Lo's "F**k You" and the "Umbrella/Singin' in the Rain" mashup with Matthew Morrison got mixed reviews from fans (including The Stir's own Amy Keyishian). Surely there are other guest stars whose performances generated as much if not more buzz than Gwyneth's? So why are fans so excited to have her back?

Here's a list of past Glee guest stars whose popularity rivals Gwyneth's:

-Everybody always wants more Neil Patrick Harris. He thrilled fans with a stirring duet of Aerosmith's "Dream On" with Morrison -- and won an Emmy for his performance to boot.

-Kristin Chenoweth charmed viewers as April Rhodes, a former glee club member who returned to high school even though she was several years the kids' senior.

-Spring Awakening fans were ecstatic when Lea Michele's former co-star Jonathan Groff joined the cast as Rachel Berry's new love interest.

-Fans are still hoping Charice returns for a repeat performance as Sunshine Corazon. She wowed fans the first time around with "Listen."

-Is there anyone who didn't like the Britney Spears episode?

Are you excited that Gwyneth is returning to Glee? Which guest star was your favorite?
