Willow Smith Skips School for Touring: Is 10 Too Young for Fame?

According to Willow Smith, she knew show business was the life she wanted when she was just 3 years old. Lucky for her, she was born into the exact right set of circumstances for making such an unlikely thing happen: she's the daughter of actors Will Smith and wife Jada Pinkett Smith.

In 2007, Willow scored a part alongside her father in I Am Legend, and she provided the voice to one of the characters in the animated movie Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa along with her mother. She's recently rocketed to fame with her first single, "Whip My Hair," which she performed on the Ellen DeGeneres Show in November of this year. DeGeneres called the single one of the hottest songs of the year, and it sold 137,000 downloads in the US in its first week alone.

The recently-turned-10-year-old has said she understands the mechanics of stardom, and that she "gets how celebrity works." She says:

It's what I've wanted to do my whole life. I get my flow from Daddy, my singing ability from Mommy, the camera stuff from both. That's just what happens when you hang out with the Smiths.

I'm sure this girl is having a ball, but I can't help but feel sorry for her. By becoming a star at such a young age, Willow Smith is sure to be missing out on many of the simple, innocent joys of childhood. She even admits she's unable to keep up with her basic education:

I never really get to go to school because I am always on tour or with my father. There is a tutor most of the time, but usually I am working so I never get to do the lessons. The worst thing about maths is all the kids are ahead of me because they go to school.

Life isn't going to slow down for Willow Smith any time soon, as she's confirmed to join Justin Bieber on his UK "My World Tour" in March 2011.

Out of all the Hollywood families, the Smiths seem the least likely to raise a wild child who starts dressing like a hooker and smoking salvia or whatever, but still, she still seems so, so young to start pursuing a career in entertainment. Even if she thinks she knows what fame is all about. Because you know damn good and well she doesn't have any idea how this is going to affect her long-term.

What's your take on Willow Smith? Too young for this lifestyle, or living the dream?
