Blue Valentine's contentious NC-17 rating has been replaced by an R rating after producer Harvey Weinstein personally appealed the MPAA decision before the ratings board Wednesday.
Initially, the rumor was that the film scored an NC-17 rating because of a controversial fight sex scene between the stars Michelle Williams and Ryan Gosling, who play a married couple on the rocks. Now, we learn that in the disputed scene Gosling's character performs oral sex on Williams.
But doesn't the R-rated Black Swan have a similar oral sex scene between Natalie Portman and Mila Kunis? "What's with the double standard, MPAA?" Blue Valentine fans wanted to know.
But apparently Weinstein's appeal was persuasive enough. And, now that the first ruling has been overturned, all is right with the world.
