Don't get me wrong. I like a good girl-on-girl kiss myself. Or a good boy-on-boy kiss. Or a boy-on-girl or girl-on-boy kiss. I'm not picky. Bring it on!
But will the Black Swan kiss deliver?
To quote the movie with one of my favorite on-screen kisses, Some Kind of Wonderful -- it just depends if the actors can "deliver a kiss that kills." So we'll have to wait and see in terms of Natalie and Mila's smooch. We'll have to, well, watch and decide if the kiss delivers on all the lusty hype after all.
For me personally, I'm guessing this isn't going to be my favorite girly kiss ever -- mostly cause it looks like Mila becomes a stalker or some other horrible freaky thing happens, which means the kiss is probably just some manipulative ploy, and that ruins it for me. Call me a romantic (or just a mushy chick), but I prefer kisses that don't end with one kisser murdering the other or forcing weird barbs into the other's skin or whatever happens to turn Natalie Portman's eyes bloodshot (aren't you wondering?).
Good on-screen kisses deliver the good stuff -- the passion and the love. Even just the passion is great if it's done well.
Heath Ledger and Jake Gyllenhaal delivered the complete good kiss package in Brokeback Mountain for sure. Not so much that anxiety-ridden first kiss in the tent but that up-against-the-wall-missed-you-so-much reunion kiss that unfortunately comes with a little buzz kill for us as viewers when Heath's wife, played by Michelle Williams, accidentally witnesses it. That aside, the kiss is hot and real (don't believe me? check out this slow-motion edit of the kiss, which cracks me up).
I don't care who's giving or who's receiving, but I do have some kiss expectations. Two girls kissing doesn't make for instant gratification. It's just got to be a kiss that kills.
What do you think? Do you like watching hot on-screen kisses? Or does it even matter if they're done well?
